The Battle of the Somme
The following pages are a photographic essay covering a recent visit to the Somme battlefield in Northern France.
By no means definitive as an account of what must be one of the most documented chapters of the First World War, the pictures and words are an attempt at showing how immotive some of the sites are - 90 years after the event.
The majority of the pictures were taken by my children Jamie and Daniel, who found the whole event moving and extremely dramatic.
I would recommend a visit to anyone interested in our past, and the historical importance of this notorious chapter of World War 1.
